I just had to share this screenshot. This is what happens when you create a new page in Backpack. The arrow disappears once you do your first edit.
The logic of Backpack isn’t the most intuitive one so some sort of hint is indeed required. The way they did it is pretty clear imho (it is like tutoring beginning from the very basics, but not in an invasive way), but some of their more advanced web applications have even better usability.
The worst thing they could have done would have been to use some neat web 2.0 popup balloons that come and go.
